6 Cats in the Movies

Cats are consummate actors and have appeared in films for decades. Here are a few of the more well known ones.


#1 Rhubarb (1951) / #2 Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Double Patsy award winning cat-actor Orangey played Cat in Audrey Hepburn’s star vehicle, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, for which he won the award. His other award winning role was in the 1951 sports dramady “Rhubarb”, where he played the title role.


#3 Bell Book and Candle (1958)

Appearing on screen alongside such greats as Elsa Lanchaster and Kim Novak, a cat simply known as “The Cat” played Pyewacket, Gillian Holroyd’s Siamese familiar.


#4 The Incredible Journey (1963)

Syn Cat, the Siamese, starred as Tao, one of the three main characters of the Disney adaptation of Sheila Burnford’s novel of the same name. The story follows three pets, Bodger, a Bull Terrior, Luath, a Labrador Retriever, and Tao as they travel across Canada to reunite with their family.


#5 That Darn Cat (1965)

DC the cat was played by several Siamese cats in this comedy thriller, again from Disney, that pitted Hayley Mills against a gang of bank robbers. One of the cats who played DC was, coincidentally, Syn Cat, who had previously starred in The Incredible Journey.


#6 Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever! (2014)

Tardar Sauce, aka Grumpy Cat, stars as herself in this made-for-tv movie where she discovers she can communicate with the lonely little girl who adopts her from a mall pet shop.
